Infringement refers to the unauthorised or unlawful violation of a right, such as intellectual property rights, copyrights, patents, trademarks, or contractual rights. It occurs when someone uses, reproduces, distributes, or otherwise exploits protected material without the permission of the rightful owner or in violation of the terms of a contract. Infringement can take various forms, including copying a copyrighted work, using a patented invention without authorisation, or selling counterfeit goods bearing a registered trademark. Legal action can be taken against infringers to enforce and protect the rights of the rightful owners, which may include seeking damages, injunctions to stop the infringement, or other remedies provided by law.
