Define: Trial Court

A trial court is the initial level of the judicial system where legal disputes are first heard and resolved. It is responsible for conducting trials, considering evidence, and rendering judgements or verdicts based on applicable laws and legal precedents. Trial courts typically have jurisdiction over a wide range of cases, including civil, criminal, family, and probate matters. They serve as the forum for parties to present their arguments and evidence before a judge or jury, who will ultimately determine the outcome of the case. Trial courts play a vital role in ensuring access to justice and upholding the rule of law by providing a fair and impartial forum for the resolution of legal disputes within the community.

The trial court is the first court to hear a case, and its goal is to discover the facts of the case.
