To “depose” typically refers to the act of giving sworn testimony outside of a courtroom setting, often as part of the pre-trial discovery process in a legal proceeding. During a deposition, individuals are asked questions under oath by attorneys, and their answers are recorded by a court reporter. Depositions allow parties to gather information, assess the strengths and weaknesses of their case, and obtain evidence that may be used during trial. The testimony provided during a deposition can be used as evidence in court proceedings.
