Frankmarriage is a unique form of estate in which a person grants land to their daughter while retaining control over it. The daughter and her offspring are permitted to utilise the land, but they are restricted from certain actions on behalf of the benefactor. Only after three generations have passed are the daughter’s children allowed to perform those actions and gain full ownership of the land. However, if the daughter’s children do not have any offspring or if they lose possession of the land prior to the third generation, it reverts back to the original grantor. This arrangement is referred to as frankmarriage due to its resemblance to a marital bond between the grantor and the daughter’s family.
Frankmarriage is a form of entailed estate where the land giver, typically a father giving it to his daughter, maintains control of the land by refusing feudal services from the land receiver (the donee) for three generations. If the donee’s descendants fail to retain the land for three generations, it reverts back to the original donor.
