A non-suit, also known as a voluntary dismissal, is a legal procedure in which the plaintiff in a civil case voluntarily dismisses their lawsuit against the defendant. This dismissal typically occurs before the case goes to trial or before a verdict is reached. The decision to non-suit a case can be made for various reasons, such as lack of evidence, settlement negotiations, or strategic considerations. Once a non-suit is filed, the plaintiff may have the option to refile the lawsuit at a later time, depending on the jurisdiction and applicable laws.
