Against (preposition):

3. As a defence or protection from something.

5. In contrast or comparison to; as a counterbalance or alternative to.
Example: She weighed the pros and cons of the decision against each other.

6. In anticipation of or prepared for an attack or threat.
Example: The army fortified the border against potential invasions.

7. In relation to legal or disciplinary action; as a charge or accusation.
Example: The defendant pleaded innocent against the charges brought against him.

8. In resistance or opposition to a force or pressure.
